Respite Care

Respite is temporary care provided by a trained person for a family member with disabilities living in their family’s home to relieve parents or caregivers temporarily from the day-to-day care they provide.  It can be provided in the family’s home, in the home of the respite provider or in a specialized facility, depending on the needs and preferences of the family or individual.

Family Assistance and Support (Family Support)

Family Assistance and Support, often called family support, is a means of supporting and maintaining a family’s capacity to keep a child with a disability at home.  These services are flexible and might include: assistance in activities of daily living, supplemental child care, help with therapies, assistive technology or environmental modifications for accessibility, or activities that promote inclusion in the community such as recreation or social skill building.

For respite care or family support that may be available, contact your region offices.
